Bloggers, product endorsements and the FTC
Yesterday, the FTC published an amendment to one of their advertising guides in regards to testimonials and endorsements. The amendments to the guides (which prior, haven’t been touched since 1980) have been altered to take bloggers and other forms of social media into account. Basically, if you’re a blogger or someone getting paid to write stuff about a product on the internet, you better be sure to disclose all the free crap you’re getting in return, otherwise there may be consequences. This CNN video helps explain a little bit better. Also, here is a link to a related TechCrunch article.
