Hope you score before Pepsi FAILS.

In recent events, Pepsi’s AMP energy division released an iPhone app. The application, “Before You Score”, is tailored to AMPed- up men and provides tips and tools for hitting on women… and bragging about it. Here’s a video to explain further:

I will be the first to admit that this is a funny and clever idea but will also stand by my belief that because of the stereotyping and lack of a male version of the app, this AMP endeavor is doomed. Popular digital agency R/GA designed the app and were able to integrate a bunch of awesome features like it’s GPS locator and social media sharing; the app itself functions great. Why the heck didn’t they level the playing field and avoid the drama? How could they possibly think this is acceptable?

Here’s a look at the sentiment trend for the app in social media (I used Social Radar):

The blogs, tweets, and comments are pouring in from women who are upset about being profiled and degraded by this application. It will be very interesting to see how this will affect both the AMP brand and Pepsi Co. I’m guessing it won’t bode well. They better do something quick and if they need help profiling men, I’d be more than happy to help! Haha.
